VU Baseball drops twinbill to Motlow State
The Vincennes University Baseball Team dropped a doubleheader Sunday at Motlow State in Tennessee to open the 2012 Season.
In the 7-3 setback in the opener, VU wasted a solid start by freshman Ty Simpson who threw five innings.
The game was tied at 2 heading into the bottom of the sixth but Motlow State broke out for five runs, said VU Coach Chris Barney.
The Trailblazers tacked on one more run but couldn't dent the late Motlow State lead any further.
Sophomore Steve Lowden was 2-for-3 and freshman Alex Kohler was 2-for-2 for VU in the opener.
In Game 2, which Motlow State claimed 10-6, Jake McMahan hit VU's first homer of the season with a solo shot and Lowden and Drew Rosbottom had two hits each.
However, four Trailblazer hurlers struggled against the host's lineup.
VU will be in another doubleheader Monday at Volunteer State, with First Pitch at 2 p.m. Sophomore Jeremy Juliot gets the ball in the first game for the Trailblazers. The VU starter in the last game is still to be announced.
