Todd Franklin was named VU's fifth men’s basketball coach in August 2010.
Prior to coming to VU, Coach Franklin recorded more than 300 wins over 13 seasons at Southeastern Illinois College and led the Falcons to 12 20-win campaigns. Two of those seasons reached the 30-victory mark. SIC earned a spot in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kan., in 2003, 2004, 2008 and 2010. SIC finished eighth nationally in 2009-10.
While amassing a 329-97 record with the Falcons, Coach Franklin oversaw a program that boasted a graduation rate over 90 percent and all of his players who completed two seasons at SIC went on to play at four-year programs.
Coach Franklin was the 2007-08 UPS/NABC National Coach of the Year. He has also garnered region and district Coach of the Year honors, while being named Illinois junior college coach of the year five times. Before taking the helm at SIC, Coach Franklin coached for six years at NCAA Div. II Missouri-Rolla and was on the staff for one season at Div. I Austin Peay. Missouri-Rolla reached the 1995-96 NCAA regional finals and grabbed the MIAA conference crown with a school-record 26 wins. That squad’s No. 5 national ranking was the highest in school history while the conference championship was Rolla’s first in over 20 years.
Coach Franklin holds a master’s degree in health and physical education from Austin Peay. He also earned his bachelor’s degree in history, with a minor in athletic coaching, from Western Kentucky. He played collegiately at Union University in Jackson, Tenn., and at Brescia College in Owensboro, Ky.
Coach Franklin and his wife Stephanie have two daughters, Madison and Mary.
