VU Blazer Bowlers 3rd at NJCAA Bowling Championships
WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - The Vincennes University Blazer Bowlers finished third over the weekend in defense of their latest NJCAA National Championship last year. The 2011 NJCAA Bowling Championships was held at Transit Lanes in Williamsville, N.Y.
The showing was only 78 pins behind champion Erie Community College. VU had 13,560 pins while Erie amassed 13,638. Hudson Valley Community College passed the Trailblazers in the late going and took second place by only 15 pins. The third place finish followed VU's three-peat of national titles in 2008, '09 and '10. The program has 17 national championships in all.
Two Trailblazers were named All-Americans after this year's competition. Kyle Geurtsen was second overall with a 12-game pin total of 2,532 for an average of 211. Ryne Smith took the fifth spot with 2,391 pins and an average of 199.
Geurtsen was third in singles with a 665 series.
